During the early days of 2020 pandemic lockdown I took an Ivy-League class on the science of well-being. One of the first exercises in the class was a Signature Strengths assessment, a look at the way I lead and why I view the world the way I do. Taking the test multiple times (just to make sure it was right--caution: overachiever alert!) the results were consistent. Repeatedly, my top strengths were:
Love
Appreciation for beauty & excellence
Gratitude
Leadership
Hope
Spirituality.
That explains why I look at the world the way I do. Why I value relationships. Why I'm hopeful, positive, chronically grateful and somewhat annoying to people who don't get those things. Why I fall gaga in love with dusty African villages and meandering Spanish small towns, why I catch my breath at the sight of sunrises or the crunch of fall leaves, and why I find expressive artistry in urban graffiti.
Through higher education, student success coaching, nonprofit leadership, humanitarian program development, consulting, speaking, teambuilding, and personal faith life, I've experienced an array of dynamic people and places, each with stories to be shared. Weaving words into vivid tapestries, I share those stories as a gift so that you may see what I see and feel all the feels in the moments alongside me.
This blog is my personal expression of the decadence of slowing down and taking time to truly see, hear, understand and appreciate the everyday exemplary of life. Slow down with me. Grab a cuppa joe. Subscribe using the link at the bottom of the page, interact with others or leave a comment about your own Signature Strengths, and let's keep the conversation going. Together we will unleash vision, take perspective and create connection along the way.
